A Stunning Contemporary Home with Spaces Full of Natural Light in London's Hyde Park

Mews 04 is the refurbishment to a 5 bedroom house in London. The initial brief was to redesign the timber framed conservatory designed in the 80’s in the Victorian style. AMA’s solution was to replace it with a similar form so as to not have to submit a potentially laborious planning application.

The original design of 3 barrel vaults was transformed into a contemporary sine curve form, with 3 large curved double glazed units, the largest single horizontal units in the UK. This new external space was the spring board for a new aesthetic approach of the rest of the house.

Starting at the entrance lobby, an elaborate mosaic was designed from hand cut marble, bespoke bronze entry doors announce the public spaces; living room and conservatory which is used as the dining room. Floors on the ground floor are finished in hand rubbed concrete to create a Terrazzo type patina. Three large bronze french doors open out from the conservatory to connect with the classical garden layout. Moving up from the entrance lobby a new floating stair divides the house in two with an added roof light bringing natural light to the centre of the house.

Dyed and brushed solid oak flooring runs throughout from the stairs, flooring and the doors. Other finishes were reduced to allow for a elaborate art and furniture collection. AMA took the opportunity to design all the built in joinery, bathroom units and the bespoke door handles and even specially configured door hinges.
